Cameos date back in history, possibly to the 6th century B.C. They were very popular in ancient Rome. Today, unfortunately, not so much, although they have enjoyed several periodic revivals.
In Britain, Queen Victoria was very fond of them. Due to her love and championship, cameos became mass-produced in the second half of the 19th century.
