The "Victorian Era" describes the years of Queen Victoria's reign, circa 1837-1901. It was a time of great opulence for the rich.
Homes were decorated in dark rich colors of velvet and damask, heavy curtains, wide gilded picture frames, tassels, fringes and crystals.
It was an era of the parlor, one of the most lavishly decorated rooms in the home. The parlor was a room for receiving guests, not daily living. Heavy dark wood and velvets created the furniture.
